SMS Messaging Consent & Terms

SMS Messaging Summary:
SMS notifications are completely optional. You can use Hooz without ever receiving text messages. By explicitly opting in to SMS notifications in your account settings, you consent to receive transactional text messages from Hooz related to team notifications, game updates, substitute requests, and other service-related communications. Hooz does not send promotional or marketing messages via SMS. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP or changing your settings.
1) SMS Notifications Are Optional
You are NOT required to receive SMS messages to use Hooz. While Hooz requires phone number verification for service functionality (such as receiving team invitations via phone lookup), SMS notifications are completely optional. You can use push notifications to receive all app updates instead.
Important Distinction:
Phone Verification ≠ SMS Consent
• Phone verification is needed for Hooz's service functionality (finding you for team invitations)
• SMS consent is optional and only for receiving notifications via text message
• You can have a verified phone number and still use push notifications instead of SMS
2) Consent to Receive SMS Messages
If you choose to opt in to SMS notifications, you expressly consent to receive text messages from Hooz LLC at the phone number you provided. To receive SMS notifications, you must:
- Have a verified phone number (required for service functionality)
- Explicitly select "SMS Messages" as your notification preference in your account settings (this option is OFF by default)
- Review and accept the SMS messaging terms
- Confirm your opt-in choice
This is a separate, voluntary choice that is not required to access any Hooz features or services. Phone verification is for service functionality; SMS notifications are for your communication preference.
How SMS Opt-In Works:
Notification preferences can be found in the settings menu.
SMS notifications are OFF by default - users must explicitly opt in
Users must view the SMS messaging terms
Users must agree they have read the SMS messaging terms to enable SMS notifications
3) Types of SMS Messages
If you opt in, you may receive the following types of transactional SMS messages from Hooz:
- Team Notifications: Messages about your team's games, practices, and events
- Substitute Requests: Notifications when you're invited to substitute for other teams
- Game Updates: Information about game times, locations, cancellations, or changes
- Account Notifications: Important updates about your account or app functionality
- Safety Alerts: Emergency or safety-related communications
Note: Hooz SMS messages are transactional in nature, relating directly to your use of the service (game notifications, substitute opportunities, etc.). We do not send promotional or marketing messages via SMS. All messages are sent only after your explicit opt-in through account settings.
4) Message Frequency
The number of messages you receive will vary based on your team activity and participation in the free agency marketplace. You may receive anywhere from a few messages per week to several per day during active periods.
5) Message and Data Rates
Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply to SMS messages sent and received through the Hooz service. Hooz is not responsible for any charges incurred from your mobile carrier.
6) Supported Carriers
This service is available on major U.S. carriers including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and other participating carriers. Service may not be available on all carriers or in all areas.
7) Opt-Out Instructions
You can stop receiving SMS messages from Hooz at any time by:
- Text STOP: Reply with "STOP" to any message from Hooz
- App Settings: Change your notification preference to "Push Notifications" in your account settings
- Customer Support: Contact us at payton.soicher@hooz.app
After you opt out, you will receive one final confirmation message, and then no further SMS messages will be sent to your phone number unless you opt back in.
8) Help and Customer Support
For help with SMS messages, you can:
- Text HELP: Reply with "HELP" to any message from Hooz for assistance

9) Privacy and Data Protection
Your phone number and SMS communications are protected according to our Privacy Policy. We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number with third parties for their marketing purposes.
Important: Your phone number is verified for Hooz service functionality (enabling other users to find and invite you to teams). This verification is separate from and does not constitute consent to receive SMS notifications. SMS notifications require an additional, explicit opt-in as described above.
10) Updates to SMS Terms
We may update these SMS consent terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or via SMS. Continued use of SMS services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
